I’m thinking there aren’t a lot of people on here who’ve swapped this combo. Search results were sparse.

Regular 4x4 4l80e with correct adapter should work. The later 97+ years are claimed to be better because of oil lines changed, but earlier units live fine as well.

A 208 will bolt to any 4x4 4l80e. That’s easy enough.

Make sure you get the tcase adapter for both, the 208/th400 and the 241/4l80. Having both with ensure you have the right parts to get them connected. Also the wiring is different on the early vs late models make sure you get one that matches with your wiring harness.

91 to about 93 has an old style connector that was under a recall. It would be a miracle if one of those still survived to this day. Eventually in 02 or so also switched to ls bolt patrern

I was told 93-95 use different neutral safety switch and something else

I don't know how beneficial a 4l80e in a square is. unlike the th350 and th400, the 4l80e uses electronics to control it hence the e in 4l80e. but if you are gonna do it I would go for 4x4 version and 98+ for the year due to the wiring harness parts are still produced and easy to find.

It looks like it worked for the guy in the first link. Do some research please lol. Just what I found on the web. You can order one, or you can use Rockauto to find out what vehicles it works with and go to the yards.

Don't forget we (GMSB members) get 5% off with RockAuto.

And I'm sure Advance Adapters has what your looking for. They can get steep on their prices though.

I can get a micro squirt s tandalone transmission controller for under $500. I am not too worried about the electronics side.

ever thought of a 6l80e instead of a 4l80e? The controller for it is only $200 more than the microsquirt. And Advance Adapters has an adapter for like $125 to the np205 (corrected) if I recall. I'll dig up the thread here in a minute. You may be able to use the TH400 adapter as well. Been a while, hang tight.

my original post, but the plan at that time was NP205.

Did you ever pull it off? If not, why not? Total newb question: is the bolt pattern to the engine block LS specific, or will it bolt to a vortec era 350?

Frankenchevy, the bold pattern on the LS block LS shares the same as the SBC and BBC. It is just missing one threaded hole on the top near the cylinder (due to a water jacket). Aside from that you can bolt any trans to an LS that was on any other GM motor. The difference is how much the crank sticks out vs the face of the block. You either have to have the right torque convertor/flex plate, or a spacer that puts the flex plate further away from the block (about 3/8 thickness but that is simplifying the measurement because LS is all metric). Aside from that the other technical stuff is LS ECM controls do not mix well with a 700R4 because there is no place to attach the TV cable and even on the manual throttle body controlled LS motors (which ran up until about 2003 or 2004 in some vehicles, people will tell you it can be done, and it can be for a time, but usually after they burn up their second trans they figure out an electronically controlled trans is a better idea. The GM PCM works with both the 4l80e and 4l60E with minimal fuss. Usually it's just a tune away from being a far superior transmission than the best mechanically controlled 700R4's.
