Hello from Boise, Idaho. I'm not brand new to GMsquarebody, but I haven't yet posted. Thanks much to all of you who post helpful information.
I am just finishing up a 73 Cheyenne long bed and one of the things I still need is a replacement instrument bezel. But the reproduction parts suppliers like LMC and Classic Industries only get as close as 1975. I'm relatively sure that the 1975 dash bezel listed will work, but does anyone know why 1973 is not listed with these suppliers? It's the same with the heater controller--the closest listed year for that at LMC is 1974. I even talked with LMC by phone about the heater controller, but the person I spoke with did not know if the 1974 controller would work in my truck. As it turns out I was able to fix my heater controller anyway.
Obviously I don't have the only 73 in existence, but it does seem a little weird that several of the online sources do not list instrument bezels for a 73.
A little about my truck. I bought it from the son of the original owner. His dad bought the truck new and started a restoration about 12 years ago. The dad then passed away and the son continued with the project until he had to move out of state and decided it was not practical to take the truck with him.
I promised the son I would take good care of his dad's truck and I'm happy to say that the project is nearly done. I recently finished having a 5.3 LS1 swap done and it has made a very nice vehicle out of an old truck. It's fast and fun, but still very practical to use as an actual utility vehicle when needed. And, it gets so much better gas mileage than the old 350 and Holley double-pumper that was in it before. The dash bezel, floor pans, and carpet are the only things left to do!
