I bought that same stripper from Lowes to use for my shop wiring job.. Started slipping after about 50 - 75 "strips".. Lowes exchanged them for me.. Second tool started slipping after about the same amount of usage.. I contacted Vice-Grip and talked to them about the problem.. Told me they were aware of the problem and had redesigned the tool.. Told me to scan my receipt and email it to them, no need to return the tool.. They overnighted a replacement.. I compared the two and couldn't see a difference, but guess what.. Yep, THIRD tool is now slipping...

The design theory is excellent.. Set the depth of the strip, place the wire in the tool, and squeeze.. I like using the tool, but the quality sucks...

I own the Klien tools version. it's made in America and lasted years of wiring. I have no complaints with them.

edit: the nice thing about the Klien ones is that the gripper and the stripper are both replaceable, although I haven't needed to after 5ish years..

Klien makes some damn good electrician's tools.. I've got a pair of diags that came in a small box of tools I bought at a pawn shop.. Must have been over 40 years ago, and the diags were old then.. Still work good... Thanks for the memory jog.. My next strippers will be Klien...

Only new to me. Kinda funny how I ran across it though. My church has a thrift store where we sell clothing and housewares super cheap for the needy in the community. The community is pretty good about donating their good, and not so good items so there is a lot of sorting and throwing away by volunteers. Every once in a while people drop off a box of crap they don't want to throw away. I was looking around in the store the other day and saw a torque wrench. I looked a little closer and its a 10-250 ft/lb MAC, 1/2" drive. Cosmetically not the greatest but works great. And it only cost me $20!
