Welcome from South Dakota! That looks like one of mine, except I don't have my engine out.

Tell us about your truck.

My dad purchased it back in 1979 new, it was 2wd 5.7 diesel, Full Silverado trim package truck. It was bought to replace a 78 Cheyenne he had bought the year prior because it was rolled during a bad bit of snow. It lived most of its life as a DD for my father until he decided it needed to be 4wd, so in about 82 or 83 he swapped the body onto the original 78 Cheyenne he owned because even though it had been rolled the running gear was still perfect. It was used around our farm for many years and then parked in 1999, it was rolled in and out of our back barn every year so we could hang tobacco In the bay where it stayed. Then in 2012 my father passed away and my mom gave me the truck, I piddled around with it here and there but didn't seriously start restoring it until last year. This is it in 2012 when I pulled it out of the barn and cleaned it up.

Since its been immobile I have done the following:

Complete new suspension front and rear, went with the 4in rough country lift, springs front and rear. Old lift was a rancho set up from way back in the day and had sunk down to only about 2.5in. (this here was a job and a half getting the old springs off)

All steering components new, save for the steering box, including upper and lower ball joints

New brakes all the way around, with braided lines for the new lift.

Wheel bearings, and rebuilt Old warn front hubs

New cab mounts and core support mounts

Replaced carrier bearing for drive shaft and Ujoints

old engine was sat aside and new engine has been built, 355 with a 294 comp cam. Not to much, enough to run good.

Complete Holley Terminator Stealth EFI system with gauges, I modified the factory bezel to accept the holley gauges.

Aluminum 4 core radiator with Electric fans

Rebuilt Hydroboost set up, made new hoses for it.

New fuel system, new tank and EFI sending unit.

The list goes on and on and on, there is alot more.

My 80 went in the shop about a dozen years ago when I thought I blew the transfer case, but now I'm thinking it was a hub. The rust on the body was getting pretty bad. It's been there ever since.

I've picked up quite a few parts for it including a rust free cab, and am planning to get to work on it now that the weather here is starting to warm up and the shop is getting organized.

The worst rust is the bed on mine, other than floor pans its really solid. I'm currently looking for a nice long bed, but here in KY its hard to find anything rust free. I scored those blue and white doors off of CL for $80 for the pair.

I was going to edge the parts and put them on but I figured this would give instant gratification

Over the weekend I got the front clip on, log fitted, turbo fitted, and intake shaved and painted. Oh, and I also painted the whole truck.
