we got 87 ethanol free and it runs good but i only run it in my mower and handheld stuff since the carbs are more sensitive than what is found in cars.

Oh, it is a relatively new thing. We only had a couple of stations until wawa and thortons moved in. E85 was the same way, and you have to gravity test every time you buy it. Full if water and slimey looking yellow stuff. Heat and moisture are alcohol's enemies.
I keep contemplating going to E85 but I will buy it by the drum not at a station for the exact reasons you've listed.

my most liked is chevron 92, but i will use shell or texaco in their 91 or 92. i dont like the big box or grocery store gas just because i dont know where they got it.

At the fuel depot in the port, most gasoline comes from common base stock with additive packages spec'd by the customer. One fuel truck may deliver the parts of the same load to several competing stations.

thanks twinturbo427, i always wondered how they sorted that out. i'll stick with chevron first because their gas has always worked well in any vehicle i've used and never harmed em either. dont really know what techron is but i'm guessing its just thier proprietary detergent.

I have very few choices because I burn propane. It's almost under .80 a litre and has over 100 octane.
Appeases the eviroMENTALS when they smell that rotten egg fart exhaust.
hehe
