Does anyone know what paint color this is? (The white/tan/beige color in the middle.) I looked up my RPO codes and it listed the red, which is called Medium Garnet Ret Metallic, but it didn't say what the other color was.

It kinda looks like GM Code WA8265. Check that one out and see what you think. The only other one it could be is WA8920, but that one looks deeper to me than what yours is.

Could also be WA8525 or just yellow.

Here's a list of 1987 colors from Automotive Touch-up Paint. I checked my glovebox tag on my '85 and it is the last line on the right column. My primary color is 21 Light blue metalic, the second color is 17 Light slate metalic. The second color description is very abreviated on the tag and unless you know what to look for you could easily miss it.

Isn't your Burb basic bright red though? Not metallic?

Your suburban is code 72 Apple Red with code 61 Doeskin Tan.

https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/do...ion-kits/Suburban/1987-Chevrolet-Suburban.pdf

The RPO code for the two tone pattern is ZY5.

The colors should appear on your SPID as "72U" (where U = upper, or primary color) and "61L" (where L= lower, or secondary color).

Paint type is High Solid Enamel; the WA number for the Red is WA7475; Doeskin Tan is WA8265.

Thanks, that brochure was very helpful!

My glove box RPO codes:
72U
ZY1

So it looks like it was repainted at some point to be a two tone? Since I don't have the ZY5 two-tone RPO code...

But I guess I have Apple Red or Standard Red as the "red" color, right? Not metallic med garnet red? That is what I found when I looked up RPO codes before and it showed up as.
I'd like to get the exact match in a rattle can if possible, and found this: https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/duplicolor-bright-red-bgm0388/99985105-P

Is that the right color as my red suburban?

Here's another picture of the red:

Keep in mind that even if you have the exact GM color for your truck it's still not going to match. Thirty years of weathering has made your paint a one-off color and nothing from a can will blend in perfectly.

Yes, yes and yes.

Your truck is code 72 Apple Red (not any of the other reds listed) and was originally a single color. The two tone was added later in life.

There is one way to be (even more) certain: when the two tones were painted the secondary color was applied first, the inset pattern masked off, and then the primary color applied over everything. Removing the masking reveals the two tone.

If there are any scratches in the red paint near the two tone that do not show the almond underneath, then it was painted later.

Not that we need any more assurance; the glovebox codes tell the story.

Good detective work, it was 100% repainted then:
