Replaced valve covers on 87 305 tbi . Had old chrome and replaced with used set off of eBay. Now valve covers only fit one way . Oil cap is in back when installed on drives side or in front when installed on passenger side but under air cleaner . Are there different valve covers?

Yes there are different styles. And it sounds like the ones you have are aftermarket and that’s a whole nother ball game, they can be any configuration

And you can also get them blank and put the holes where you want them to suit the application.
