Unknown 208 history, what to check for?

Just bought a 1984 K20 project truck with 350/700r4/208. The trans and transfer case are in the bed. The 700r4 is going in this week for an overhaul and I'm thinking I need to do the same on the 208. Looks like I can get a rebuild kit and chain for a bit over 200.00. Before pursuing this however, is there anything that i can check on the transfer case as far as wear and tear or do I just break it down and do the rebuild? Any "upgrade" parts to consider?

Forks and pads subject to wear and should be checked. Replace seals while it is out and reseal case w/ good grade RTV. Chain only sees wear when in 4x4 mode, typically last a long time. 208 will deliver reliable service assuming you don't get feisty with it.
