I am gathering what I wll need to do a trans fluid and filter change soon on my Burb. Has anybody ever done a tourque converter flush themselves? I never have but will attempt it. I found this on the Popular Mechanics site:

http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/how-to/maintenance/1272521

"To extract as much of the old ATF as possible, leave the pan on, remove a trans cooler line at the radiator, put a drain pan under it, then start the engine for a few seconds to find out which way the fluid is flowing. It doesn't matter whether you use the inlet or outlet line except that you have to attach a small hose either to the line connector or the radiator outlet in order to collect the ATF. Put the hose into the largest jug you can find, and let the engine idle until air starts spurting. Many professionals enhance this procedure by pouring a few quarts of fresh fluid into the dipstick tube at roughly the same rate that the old fluid is coming out, thus adding flushing action."

My question is the pressure line going to the radiator comes directly from the pump in the trans? And the return line to the trans, does that just dump right into the tans body or into a cirucuit? How is the 700r4 trans "plumbed"? Does the fulid go right from the pan, through the filter, and directly to the pump, then into the T/C?????

from what I understand all transmissions get fluid from the pan, thru the filter, pumped thru everything by the pump, out to cool, and back into the pan.

I'd use the Amsoil fluid. It keeps the trany cooler than the other brands.

I'm gonna' change mine this Sunday if I have the extra cash. There was a puddle of tranny fluid underneath it when I moved it out of the garage but I can't tell where it's coming from since the whole pan is covered in it. Hopefully it's just a blown gasket...but I noticed that it seems two bolts are not in the pan....fell out maybe?
