Does anyone know the difference between the tall and short th400 to np208 transfer case adapters? Is anyone able to tell me what I need? I have a 1987 Chevy pickup. It came stock with a 700R4 and someone swapped in a th350 with a 208 transfer case. I bought a th400 out of a 1979 Chevy I now need any adapter. Any help will be awesome!

Good luck finding that. They're not easy to find. Either the short or the tall will work, and then the crossmember matters. By the sounds of what's been swapped in already, you need the short one, but you can find the crossmember for the tall one and use that instead. BUT, the big issue is, if you had a Th350 or 700r4, then you have a 27 spline Tcase and you're going to need to swap that out for a 32 spline to fit the Th400.

So I had the tranny shop bolt together the tranny and transfer and everything fit.

Yes, this is the crossmember for the short adapter. So I hear, the short adapter is the hard one to find. I guess I made a good score when I traded this for a 14b Semi Floater axle I had no use for.

This would be the crossmember you'd use with the tall adapter, usually found on the 80 and earlier trucks with NP203 and NP205.

Cool, so you have the adapter then. Which crossmember do you have now? That wavey one you posted a pic of, the flat one I just posted for the 70's trucks?

I have the crossmember but the tranny shop bought the wrong adapter, idk how how. But the transfer case bolts up. But when it's bolted up the transfer case points right at the ground. I have the crossmember that I posted on this forum!

I have the wavey crossmember

One of these 2 is what you need if you have the short adapter. The wavey or the W. If your truck is an 87, the wavey is that your frame will be hole punched for.

OK so you probably have the right crossmember then. You're confusing us when you say adapter. The adapter is what goes between the transmission and transfer case. I'm not aware of any adapter for the crossmember to the Tcase adapter. Are you maybe talking about the transfer case mount? There is a mount that goes between the crossmember to the transfer case adapter. Probably adds maybe 2 to 2.5 inches.

You say your transmission is already bolted to the transfer case, so you've already got the adapter. Now you just need the correct crossmember and rubber mount. Does your Th400 and NP208 look like the one I posted above in the tractor bucket? If so, then you have the correct crossmember and you just need the rubber mount. Should be a very common part.
