How do I identify what transfer case i have? Is there a way to look it up with the vin# or will it directly say "NP203"?

If your shifter is Hi Hi Lok Low and Low Lok it's an NP203. I'm fairly certain that is what would have been in 77. If it's not that, then it's a NP205. Since you don't have a manual transmission and it's not a K30, then it should be the NP203. A real heavy bitch, chain driven and a full time 4x4 unit.
