Suburban guys: rear cargo area bed mat ideas?

People with burbs: anybody have a good suggestion for a rear cargo area bed liner/mat that they use?
When I have the third row seat out and really load up the back area for hauling stuff, I would like to have something durable to protect the carpet. I see that weathertech makes a rear cargo area mat (not sure what that's like), but I was thinking just some universal fit drop-in bed liner for pick up trucks would work too, and I would cut to size. Does anybody have something like this in their truck?

While cutting down a bed mat would work well to protect the floor, one of the advantages of the model specific molded mats is the lip they usually have around the entire perimeter to contain messes and spills better. The weathertech products I've seen when I worked at a dealership, were all well made and fit the vehicles they were made for excellent. However, they were kinda pricey. Fwiw, I have a Saturn wagon that I cut down a Volkswagen trunk mat to fit. The VW mat comes with dividers that attach to the mat with something similar to velcro, but stronger. Works pretty well to keep stuff from rolling around out of control back there.

I have been looking to get the weathertech liner, but been holding off due to cost and that have yet to see one installed. Currently just have umiversal mat.

I currently just use and oversized piece of scrap carpet. Has done a decent job for me.

My Suburban came with one... it's a rubber thing with raised edges but it only covers the area behind the third row seat. Are you looking to cover the entire area with the third row seat removed?

I have been trying to come up with a good solution to this as well. I like the weathertec mat but not the price. I currently have a piece of cardboard cut to fit and annother on top of it so I can cover the entire rear area if I remove the third row seat. I thought about cutting the bottom out of a big plastic tote so I had 24" sides that taper down to about 6" in the back so I can haul mulch or other messy things and be able to just pull it and hose it out when Im done.

Is that weathertech mat specifically made for the squarebody suburbans?
And, is it designed for the whole cargo area without 3rd row seat? Or just behind the 3rd row?
It's $130 for the weathertech one, and the universal fit bed mats I've been looking at are not that much less than that - around $100+. So I am considering the weathertech one if anyone has a picture of it that would be great.

I've always just thrown down a couple old blankets. Cheap and it works well. Also makes for a comfy napping area.

Places like Tractor Supply sell those thick universal rubber mats, one of those would work well if cut down to size.

I think I'll be getting that tractor supply cut-to-fit mat.
Hopefully I'll find a rear heater that I'm looking for, so the weathertech won't fit, I'll need to cut something custom.

Is the bed area behind the 2nd row the same size as a 73-87 pickup bed?
I measured and got something like 6' by 4' (between wells)

It is the same. If back seaats are folded, it becomes same as 8' bed. The maiin difference is the shape of the wheel wells

I got a bedliner from a 88 series Chevrolet stepside and cut it down with a skil saw. It slides right in. It is not very comfortable on your knees to crawl in and out, but just hauled an elk in the back and it saved my carpet. Got the liner for $25 bucks off Craigslist.
