My brain wants to rebuild but my curious side wants to just buy another and replace, giving me the opportunity to play on the stock 350th. I want to make my 81' K10 a good hauler, I want to hook up my gooseneck and haul my horse to the arena and occasionally take the cows to the vet without feeling like I'm tearing it up.

Any plus or minuses in keeping the stock 350, upgrading to the 400 or other suggestions? also, along those lines, I want to do a suspension lift to get it riding better. Any suggestions on 3, 4, 6" and what experiences y'all have had is greatly appreciated!!

If money's not an issue, you'd probably be happier getting a new one and tinkering with the old one. If it is, I'd rebuild the old one like you want. That's what I'd do, but I want to build my own thing and not buy someone else's. The real pro to upgrading to a 700R4 is the fourth gear in a daily driver. If you don't need the lower cruising RPMs or better economy, I'd just keep the TH350. They're good transmissions. If you do end up getting a 700R4, make sure you get an '87 or later core. I have a 1986 unit with over 250,000 miles, but that's not common.
