SM465 to NP205 Coupler Sleeve Orientation

Which direction does the coupler sleeve go in the adapter between the SM465 and NP205? Coupler is 4-1/4" in total length. The snap ring inside the coupler is 1-3/8" from one end and 2-7/8" from the other end.

Snap ring end goes toward the transmission. It is very vague in the service manual but that's what it shows and that's how I did mine.
