Hello everyone, a few weeks back I purchased a Mark IV 454 from an 1989 C30. I'm in the process of putting it into my truck (1987 V10) with a newly swapped in SM465 and NP208.

So my questions to you guys are how did you get your big blocks in?
Iv'e read to use the mounts that came on it, and others say to use my small block mounts.

Do you put the bellhousing on the engine first or just leave it on the tranny?
Iv'e tried both and I'm having a hell of a time making any progress at all.

Also my fuel pump which appears to have some sort of canister at the bottom seems to hang to low to the engine crossmember.

HELP?:Insane:

You can use the big block mounts that cam with the C30 IF it was a squarebody truck. Otherwise, your stock mounts will work fine. You can install the engine/trans all as one, then install the t-case.

Fuel pump? Is your truck and the donor truck both carb-swapped? At any rate, the large style factory pump isn't a good one, IMHO. A basic Jeg's/Holley/Carter/etc pump is a good upgrade and takes up much less space.

Never even thought about putting the tranny on the engine first.

Already took the mechanical pump off. Decided to go with an electric pump and regulator instead.

Thanks for the reply

So just wanted to say the SM465 was a huge disappointment. So slow. If you want a fun, fast manual this is definitely not it. Get yourself a NV4500 or stay automatic. Ended up picking up a TH400 with 60,000 miles on it mated to a NP208 for $200. That was a whole two weeks after I got the SM465 going.

Nope, the SM465 isn't no quick shifter. It's rock solid and hard to tear up, just don't be in a hurry to shift it.
