I figured I may as well start a mini build thread on this one too.... This is kinda a continuation of my other project in under construction " project F smog" which is probably a few pages back by now.

For those not familiar, Basically i was building a 2wd c20 into a 4x4 k20 in my driveway, someone called the city, so had to move the vehicle inside my garage via a friendly neighbor using his f250 to push it in. No steering and a locked up axle made it a real hassle.... Also pulling it in and out to continue the build his really not an option by myself.

So I bought this little thing like a week later... asked $2200, low balled $1400 and got it for $1700. Compared to some other test drives, she Drove great, and had immaculate engine bay, so snatched it up. Was fine until a week or so later when the check engine light came on, when I realized he did the individual check engine clearout. So I took her to AutoZone to read what the problem is...

Now I have a decent tool collection, but I can't get to them with the k20 in the way, so had to use their code reader which produced 3 codes p0420, catalytic bank one efficiency low, something about pirge threshold low, and another on which I think the new gas cap fixed.

I spent $ on a smh diagnostic and basically had $300 tune up done. I still have a steering rack leak, and need a new cat... but she runs great. Paid registration, but need smog (go figure) smh

The goal of this is to make a mobile crane to bullbar the k20 in and out, and also use a front winch.

Here's the pictures to catch you up...

I knew I needed to get this tracker higher so it could push the k20 and needed some altitude to Align the trackers push bumper to the k20 rear bumper.
Started checking out comparable wheels....

Here's the engine bay... 4cyl 2.0 auto...so she has 260,*** but supposedly brother of previous owner had replaced the engine 100k ago. But after the check engine okiedoke, may not be a reliable historian. Runs great though and Compression 185 across all cylinders. Engine looks showroom clean up top.

Ultimate plan is for a bumper like this..... I see their better business bureau ratings, but they're in Bakersfield CA so if there's one in stock I can pick up, I may consider them....

But she looks better already.....

The rain has been pouring in CA which is great for the drought, but slowed progress....they said 14ft of snow in the last eight daysup the mountains....

I also ordered a 2" low range off road suspension/ spacer lift, 2" body lift, and rocky road steering shaft spacer for body lift -but may or may not need it... gunna try with my now limited hand tools-when I have a McPherson strut compressor in the garage.
At least I'm back to enjoying wrenching again. Got the excitement....

Saw a few issues....

One is my oil dipstick is not seated in properly....

You must be registered for see images attach

Two is it appears as if this is too oily and maybe leaking, looks like an oil pressure sensor in the block.....but it could be coming from above and dripping down onto this too....

Three is a PS rack leak....

But after I remedy all this, and hopefully with fluid changes, she will be sorted out...

Had been researching gearing for the bigger tires... apparently the low gears are under rare and unobtainium. looks like a 99 5.12/5.13 will have to do... I would have loved the 5.375s and 32x 9.5 x15s but oh well. I hope to get a whole diff front and rear to swap. Stock size is 29x6.5x15 @4.88 gears equals roughly 3674 rpm.

Oh I forgot, it's been so slow as after years of CA drought I have only got a day or two in on this since last post. She passed smog, but dmv hasn't gotten it yet, so I may have to go down there. I also have to smog again in August since it's tagged for that month. I have had trucks that wouldn't pass smog once lifted, geared, tires , so want to be able to leave it till after August.

Just wanted to cite some references when I was searching for hours on the web of some pictures of other guys builds I will incorporate into mine...

Overall I intend to build like a four door version of this....

But I like how this guy relocated his turn signals into the fender (where as the guy above just deleted them)
You must be registered for see images attach

And if I need more clearance, I can do like this, but since I bought a low range "kit", I don't want to piece it together just yet.

I found a deal for $240 for this bumper which is much less that the $675 cal mini wanted. It would likely take some fab to work, but once the body lift and gap are there may clean it up. I haven't pulled the trigger yet, but the width seems do able.

But I still want to trim the rear quarter panel near the bumper as flush as I can...

I know the tubing is just for water drip from jams, but need to investigate the other stufff. Haven't really been up under one of these things. Might be diff breather or charcoal canister type thing. Ran out of time before work.

So the pieces inside the wheel well turned out to be the spare jack and jack handle location, and the diff breather I still have to deal with.
