I have a set of H2 wheels that I'll be running soon, but I want to have them powder coated black first. I would like some feedback on how well the finish holds up. Anyone running powder coated wheels please chime in.

On a side note, I'm looking to sell my current tires/wheels so if anyone is in the market for a set of 37x12.5x16.5 tires and black steel wagon wheels, let me know!

go for it. Powder coat is a very durable finish for wheels. I have an uncle that powdercoats so I've had powdercoated rims on several vehicles. I'll be having him powdercoat a set of aluminum wheels for my truck whenever I restore it. Just like painting.....it's all about the prep before even coating them.

I'm cleaning up some aluminum rims to replace my current steels. They cleaned up nice using a green 1" 3M Roloc and I wanted to go one step further in polishing. I used a cotton buff with white compound. Now, I do understand that you'll get a dulled coating first but IT WOULDN'T COME OFF!! I was buffing at about 1500 rpm so I don't think speed was the issue. Please can someone help. What did I do wrong? Hey! I'm talking about the rims here. I know some of you.

Too bad I can't rent one or get one from Harbor Freight. Or build one if I had a welder and knew how to weld or, had more money.

My wheels are coated and have held up great, they are about 1.5 years old now.

My problem is not with coating but with the cleaning and polishing.
Here's some before and after bits...

Remember that the surface needs to be roughed up in order for the powdercoat to stick properly.
