pinion angle

morning all..

heres my issue. I just installed a 6" kit. my pinion angle is crazy. the pinion is pointing damn near exactly to the tcase.

back of tcase is 6*
rear driveshaft is 22*
pinion angle is 16*

so correct me if I'm wrong...I need to lower the pinion angle by 10*..?? can I put shims in backwards to aquire this?

all the lifts I have done and I have never ran into this issue were I needed to DECREASE the pinion angle.

truck lift info on rear is shackle flip, 3" shackle and 3"springs. t case is lowered like an inch I believe.

The shackle flip and longer shackles is why your pinion is pointed up.

You should probably move your axle back with ORD’s axle offset plates, that’ll help the pinion angle a little bit. Then you’ll need pinion angle shims on top of that as well

Do you have a fixed yolk with CV on the back of the tc?

If so, then what you have now is exactly what you need.

instead of shins you can cut the spring mounts off and move them on the axle tubes. if your using shines i think you need one under and one on top to keep the u-bolts straight

I have ORD's 4" shackle flip kit and it does pitch the pinion up a little but I haven't had any problems with it, just make sure your axle has enough oil in it to keep the pinion bearings lubed. Also the axle offset plates are a good idea, I moved mine back 1.5" and it looks more centered in the wheel well.

I have the offset plates but opted not to use them. I have ORD custom rear leafs and the center pin comes already moved back further than stock..i may try and throw them on though and see what happens.

no it is a slip yoke....however I just priced a cv drive shaft from a local drive line shop. 300$. so I'm probably going to go that route since I need a longer one anyways.

thought about doing this actually. .. I thought about it last night while looking at the driveline in the blazer. the angle is too steep for a 2 ujoint driveshaft anyways. I'm going to have a CV drive shaft built next week.

here's a neat little FYI, I just pointed this out on another forum. to get the degree symbol hold down the "ALT" key and type 248 on the number pad. so it turns this,

back of tcase is 6*
rear driveshaft is 22*
pinion angle is 16*

into this,

back of tcase is 6°
rear driveshaft is 22°
pinion angle is 16°

just wanted to pass this on. highdesertranger
