Last year I bought a 1981 Chevy C30 3+3. It originally had a 454 and turbo 400. The previous owner bought the truck for the motor/trans, and I bought it rolling. I bought the truck to put a 366T and creeper 4 speed in it. I got the engine / trans all bolted in and realized I had no idea where I'm going to find the correct drive shaft. The original one in the truck is about 39" and it looks like I need more like 46".

Yeah, it made me look twice too. I think he means for a two-piece shaft.

I mean what else are you suppose to call it? I asked for front part of the drive shaft and I was getting questions if I was looking for the slipyoke. Anyways, you guys are right, drive shaft is 2 pieces. I need the part with the carrier bearing, which is the front part of the main drive shaft.

car-part.com turned some up for me within 200 miles to all the way across the country. I used the "4x2, 164.5 wheel base, MT, front section" selection. You may get lucky and a wrecker near you with what you need. Keep in mind that if the engine and trans combo you installed doesnt put the yoke where the factory one sat you will need a custom shaft. Or you will need a tape measure and some time under a lot of trucks.

I’d just have a new one made at a drive shaft shop

The used one you pay a bundle for and even more for shipping is going to be totally worn out and need rebuilding anyway

I'm currently looking into having one made. I'm trying to save a little money, they want $300 to make one. It should be in the factory location for a manual transmission truck, as the transmission is the exact same as my 3/4 ton had.
