I'm building a motor for my 86 burb. I have a L31 vortec crate motor I bought for my ex. Along with the old performer tbi to multiport conversion unit. (3505 if you're interested in looking it up).
The split hit me hard financially, just getting on my feet good the past few years.
I bought the terminator x system for it.

The motor has been sitting since '05. Took it apart to see what condition it's in. Looks new. I have a cam for it, .485/.498 lift, 213/[email protected], 110 lsa. Nice broad power band. Work on it when I can, grandkids keep me running...

It has Vortec heads..I need to install screw in studs and proper springs for the cam.
Hoping I can get on it Friday...my Granddaughters school is putting on a Veterans Day "parade" for us vets today. Elementary school, they go and "march" or ride their bikes, scooter what not carrying signs, flags, and signs.

It was a hoot last year.

That's a cool sounding set up, but you may want to do some homework on cam selection & vortec heads. Specifically I've read they cant handle more than .420 lift, there is some way to machine the guides down to accommodate more.

At least that's what it says on the interwebs, I have no personal experience with big camshafts in a Vortec.

Hence the spring swap. The comp cams beehive springs are more than adequate.
I always check clearances to be sure. Do overs are expensive!

Hi Ray, Hey went through the same thing...twice, so I feel for you. If you have the heads off, just put a little clay in the piston eyebrows, install the head with a couple bolts, turn motor over a few times. Pull heads and measure clearance. You probably already know that, but easy to do, don't forget head gasket thickness....

Me and play doh are old friends lol.
With the lift on this cam valve slap is not a problem. The stock Vortec springs suck and with stock retainers max out a .470-ish valve lift, give or take.
The comp cams springs are good for .550 lift on an otherwise stock head.
I should be plenty good.
I need some time in the shop!
