Yea,I know the gear box is bad. Leaks from knuckle and output shaft on box
Will this cause a knock? And power steering sequels when turning?got clean full fluid and tight belt, so what else can cause the knock? Somebody else said intermediate shaft could be dry on grease.Or needle bearings gone.
What y’all think?

Nize lookin' truck!

Those wide tires are going to put a LOT of strain on the front axle joints when turning.

Is it more a squeal or a groan?

Are there bubbles or foaming in the PS fluid? (even tho it's new fluid)

Is the knocking you hear when you're rolling or at a stand-still?

If at a stand-still, have someone stand outside by the wheels as you turn them to listen.
Helpers are great to have around 'cause most peoples ears won't reach from the drivers seat to there.

I’ll say that the only way to truly diagnose a bad u joint by looks is pulling the caps and looking at needle bearing imprints on the trunions. They have a clunkety clunk sound when they’re going bad, and nasty cases will produce driveshaft slop. Cases that are not quite there will be hard to detect with this test. At least that’s my experience. I’m not a suspension expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I’d be looking into a frame crack at the Saginaw box and getting a brace to remedy it if that’s what it is, ball joints, bump stops, Pitman arm, and various bolts and bushings. Like it was suggested, a second person helps in these matters.

Got hubs? Are they in or out with the noise?

I'd first suspect a U joint at one of the stub shafts. Next thing I'd check is to make sure the frame hasn't started splitting at the steering gear box. If it has, get that weld in support and fix that ASAP.

May be the ball joints on the axle need to be replaced. They are consumable items just like anything else.

Did you end up solving this knock? I'm curious to know what it was.
