Another option is to run an ORD Twin Stick setup. No tracking down parts and you will have one lever for hi-low and the other for 2-4.

Does the slip yoke style have any disadvantages? What style would my current 1979 np203 have?

Right now you have the slip yoke in the drive shaft , not the t-case. I myself am not a fan of the slip in the t-case , (they tend to vibrate on lifted square's) and they are not as strong for hard use off road.

But for the average person that's not doing any hard offroad stuff, the slip yoke setup is not bad.
