So I was under the K5 today an noticed my transfer case is a 208.
I have a 465 hooked to it. I have a 205 in the Shop.. should I swap it? Or is it not worth doing?
This is just a woods toy/mud toy

The 205 is the stronger tcase but you may run into issues like driveshaft lengths, and I think the trans to tcase adapter is different. If your 205 is set up for rear slip yoke it may not be so bad.

Keep it till it blows apart. Yes the 205 is waaaaaaaay stronger in many ways, but the 208 has a better ratio and if your not putting gobbs of HP to it and your not doing serious rock crawling you should be fine with the 208.

and the 205 would need to have the 32 spline input and round pattern adapter to mate to the back of the 465. Either way you go, those 32 spline input t-cases, are worth bank.

Around 350hp and not rocking it .
Plus would save me some time and money leaving it.
So it’s settled
208 stays
205 collects dust lol

I have a 208 in mine 450-500hp big block and th400 sitting on 36s, with a posi 10 bolt front axle and a 12 bolt posi rear axle. Not good a combination but it’s for playing in the mud not crawling. It will be interesting to see what breaks first. Lol

So far I’ve figured out
Mine has
14 bolt rear with disc conversion
Danna 44 up front
Crate motor 350 4 bolt main
Headers holly 600 vortex heads exc...
465 tranny
208 t-case
I guess previous owner was building it up
I’ve got some minor things to do like the front shaft
Think I’ll get a spacer to finish it off.
Then it will be ready to play

I gotta get my front shaft lengthened and my back one shortened and slide the rear axle back.

My vote is on the front axle shafts at the CV joint but that depends on what the rear Posi is.

They aren’t 28 spline axles my guess would be snapping the transfer case in half lol then again with the posi units the should slip a bit before breaking stuff.
