I bought my '79 Stepside three years ago and it has sat the majority of that time as I had other major projects to do. Currently it runs good but is basically an old worn out farm truck that somehow never got any body damage. It has a three on the tree which likes to get stuck in gear and while the motor runs good, it is tired and I live on state highway so that’s why I don’t drive it. I have a fresh engine and tranny sitting in the garage with zero miles on them and I am finally getting back into truck mode.

The truck has the original integrated head 250ci and the new drivetrain waiting in the wings is a non-integrated 250 with a TH 350 transmission (with factory ac and ps!) I like inline sixes. The interior was fairly trashed and I picked up some black buckets from a friend last month and a new dash cap recently, once I add new carpet and paint the door panels it will look pretty decent. I also swapped the '79 grill for a 73/74. Lastly I very recently picked up this rare ‘70s Stepside camper top from Tony Kee and it cleaned up really nice.

I live near lake Tawakoni East of Dallas and this is my 9th square body and my 6th stepside. I am looking forward to turning some wrenches again and rolling down the road again. I am going to pull the clip off to do the drivetrain swap so I can detail the engine bay. I guess that’s it for now.

Very nice truck! Im sentimental to the 73 grille and 250 IL 6 step side as my dad had a 73 with the 250 as i grew up. I learned to drive on it with no ps or power breaks! Still sits in my moms yard and still runs to this day, gotta love the straight 6!

This one’s a keeper. It rocks the camper shell, and the drivetrain setup is gonna be great! Welcome!

I finished one project and was able to pull the truck in the garage last week. It runs OK, just has some miles on it and the three on the tree likes to get stuck between gears as they like to do so I have not driven it for fear of getting stuck at a stop light. I had planned on replacing the engine and transmission and putting in my tilt steering all at once but I decided to do this in stages since I can use the old column and make it work and the engine can run good with a little love and it has AC and power steering so I am starting with the transmission swap first. I have a newly rebuilt TH350 ready to go in.
