Electric fuel pump on dual tanks?

Hey, I'm working on my 85 gmc sierra classic. i just purchased a 383 stroker engine that's pushing around 425 hp. I was looking at puting a electric fuel pump on it but not sure what i would need to do to make it work with the dual tanks.

if anyone has done this before and can lend any advice that would be awesome.

You could put an inline pump in possibly, where it just mounts on the frame. I'm not sure how that would work with the selector valve I don't think it would be a problem, not sure though

Are we talking removing mechanical pump completely for electric pump? If so then you would need the pump, fuel regulator, and 3 or 2 line pickups as well as a bunch of new fuel line hose.

I'd think you could install the electric pump just past the selector valve and should be OK. Then go through the fuel regulator at the fender well or firewall. Only way a fuel regulator is not needed is if you find a 3.5-5lb psi electric pump. They do exist, but that kind of defeats the purpose since you're obviously wanting to increase fuel volume right?

As long as you're still pulling fuel from the selector valve not trying to push gas through it from the tanks, I couldn't see why not

Yep. It would be a good idea to relocate everything from factory though, mounting everything as low as possible (below the fuel level and as close as possible to the tanks). Also don't run the tanks less than about 1/4 tank because the fuel sloshes around so much. You don't want to starve the electric pump while slowing down or going up a hill or similar.

How did GM do it in 1987 for their TBI? Pumps in each tank, or an inline fuel pump?

Both baffled tanks to reduce fuel movement and in-tank pumps.

Thanks for the help and ideas. Now that I know I can do it I got to think on what way I want to go. So many options so many ideas.

ok sorry Ive being sick and not able to do much so just getting back at my truck now. so i got two new tanks and the mechanical pump has being removed and blocked off. i have checked out one option but ill need a bank coming behind me. that option was in tank fuel pumps from aeromotive. by the time i buy all the parts ill be over 2000.00 and don't really want to get that deep into it.
if someone has added a electric fuel pump with the fuel selector stock please let me know what you have done. I'm looking for other options. I'm sure there are more.

I just put in an inline pump ahead of the selector. Works fine for me.

I added fuel injection to mine and was kinda in the same boat as you. I really didn't want to replace both tanks with baffled units with in tank electric pumps. Instead I bought a universal electric fuel sump from Edelbrock. Their thought was why modify your existing fuel system since it is already there and working. The mechanical pump fills up the sump, and then the electric pump in the sump feeds the engine. They have a 60 psi version and a 49 psi version. They use a Walbro pump inside them.

Just another idea.

Recently changed the selector valve and the instructions said if running an electric pump not to put the pump upstream (between selector and tank) because it can damage the valve.
