1982 dash mount with delay. The delay knob has always been finicky. Sometimes it works, sometimes the delay works then you have to turn it back and forth to get anything other than slow constant.

More recently it will do a phantom wipe(s). I understand this is usually a chaffed wire but have one unusual symptom. I can always stop it by cycling the switch back and forth.

I also am going to investigate cleaning the park mechanism as it will occasionally fail to return home when switched off.

The real question, has anyone had the switch or delay box cause phantom wipes? This is my only truck with dash intermittent so am unable to parts swap among my own vehicles and the switch and delay box are not cheap enough to buy for testing. If the problem persists I have a non delay of unknown condition I can put in for testing.

Thanks

I had something similar happen to me on the stalk delay setup with the whole phantom wiping but not the intermittent delay. I cleaned the park wire female end, the lead on the motor, and made sure it was tightly reconnected when I was done. IIRC, it helped for a while, but I had to replace the motor because it was flat worn out soon after.

Just as a continuation,

The phantom wipes disappeared for a while but have come back recently. I feel it is in the switch for if I center the knob between mist and delay it goes away.

Sounds like a faulty switch. Usually, but not always, the module just plain fails.
