Dana 3/4 vs 1 ton?

What is the big difference in between the 2?
Growing up I always only herd about the 3/4, now it seems everybody is about 1-tons.
Want to convert for towing / better bearings.. (12bolt in the back 10bolt in front corporate)
What are the differences in between the D44s and D60s?

If we're only talking front axles, the d60 is massive compared to the d44. The d44 was designed as a half ton axle. It was adapted to eight lugs when the manufacturers decided that they didn't need a separate axle between thee two. Everything about the d60 is heavier than the d44.

if you are swapping to 3/4 or 1 tons you wont have a 12 bolt, 3/4 and 1 ton got a 14 bolt as standard equipment unless you got the dually with hd option to upgrade to dana 70 rear.

And the difference between semi and full floaters?
What do you mean a separate axle between the two ?
What do need to switch to the d44s from the 1/2 tons?
Should I hold out for 1tons?

14 bolt semi float is essentially similar to a 10 bolt in design except substantially stronger(9.5" vs 8.5"). Full floater is even larger(10.5") and all wheel load rides on a separate bearing that axle turns.
For the front 3/4 axle does not really offer improvements in strength over 1/2 version for exception of 8 lugs and bigger brakes.
All depends on the purpose for the truck

One more thing about semi float vs. full float , the pinion in a full float rides on three bearings , (two in front and one in back) , and semi has only two , (both in front). Full float blows semi out of the water in all ways.

Agree but I’ve seen quite a few FF with broken inner support bearing boss’ broken. Which pretty much renders them useless. Not being Contrary Pete here, just something to keep an eye out for when buying one.

Unless you're seriously 4 wheeling you don't need a d60 up front. A d44/10 bolt is sufficient. To make a 6 lug d44 8 lug you have to swap the outers. Caliper holder/backing plate, caliper, hub and rotor. Extremely easy. The lock outs are the same 6 and 8 lug.

I’ll throw this tid bit in too. 89-91 Blazer and Burb 10 bolts have 30 spline axles. Well 89 is 50/50 from what I’ve found. Fronts and back axles have them.

I bashed my last 14ff and it took everything I gave it, laughed and called me a ***** lol. 500 lb axle and everything is heavy duty. I got my first sf axle and interested to see how it holds up. This truck will only see the street so I'm leaving the axle, but if I was 4 wheeling it I would swap a ff. They're everywhere and they're cheap.

30 spline at the diff like a d44? So can you use these shafts on a d44? 10 bolts were 28 or 29 I can't remember, but the d44 inners were 30. All the outers were 19.

The inner spline count won't effect swapping 6 to 8 lug though. That doesn't matter.

I had a Trac lok in d44 front and would snap shafts all the time .

It's a lsd or posi yes. Open until one side starts to slip then the other side starts to engage. I snapped shafts all the damn time. I was about to upgrade to a 60 when I flipped it. It had a bad ass 454 too and I never was shy of wide open and we don't have mud. All Rocky mountains lol. Not as forgiving as mud.
