So I was pulling off the Holley two nights ago, and everything was fine. One of the studs came out with the nut, that wasnt fun at 1/6 turn at a time. Of course I wouldnt have the bolts for the front mounts of the Q-jet and did any parts or hardware stores carry 5/16x18 x 3 3/4" .... no. Oh well, I ordered a bolt kit, it will be here Tuesday.

It looks like the PO didnt replace the mount gasket and just reused the one from the old Q-jet and slapped on the Holley. I cleaned up mating surface on the intake, new gasket and now just waiting on the bolts. I found vacuum lines going to studs and just wonky stuff. Its going to be nice to have a good working carb and vacuum lines to the right places.

Question...
There is a vacuum line that isnt connected that runs down the drivers side firewall and looks like it goes into the firewall... Any idea what that is?

Cruise control maybe? How big is it? On mine the HVAC supply goes in the passenger side.

A large vac line into drivers side should be the cruise dump switch on the brake pedal.

My 86 had cruise control and the vacuum line was on the drivers side.

Thanks! I thought that it would do with CC. I definitely have it by the stalk and RPO, but I believe some/most of the parts are missing. And its a bigger kind of line.

I was pretty sure that HVAC was passenger side.

I can handle wiring.... but vacuum lines are my nightmare and the PO really F'ed up a bunch of stuff.

Ok, question. Im bolting the carb on and I am looking at the electrical connector for the choke. It looks like it is broken, but maybe a green connector and a thin metal connector inside. I can take a pic, but I was wondering if it was the correct connector. It might look like I need to replace the connector, does anyone know where I can get one or if there is a modification that works for that connector?

Edit... it looks like its a common pig tail. Google FTW.

If it looks like this:

You must be registered for see images attach

the locking tab is broken off, that's the way almost any one you see will look.

This is how they looked when they were new:

You must be registered for see images attach
You must be registered for see images attach
You must be registered for see images attach

IDK why they are designed like that. There doesn't seem to be any reason for that tab to be there - at least no reason that I have ever noticed.

I guess you answered what I needed. I can get a new pigtail for $7 from Advanced Auto Parts. It doesnt look like anyone in the area keeps one stocked.

Anyways, yeah my clip is broken, HA.

edit... holy ****, shipping is $9... wtf?

Ok questions about vacuum lines. Since I trying to put this together will a ton of missing pieces.

There are 6 vacuum ports.
A) One on the back on the hat.

Then the 5 on the front.

B) Two big ones. I know one is for brakes and I assume one for PCV ? Which one is for the brakes, the on the 'base' or the lower port, or the one in the middle of the carb?

C) That leaves 3 smaller ones on the front. Which goes to what?

Specifically which goes to the timing advance? Also, which goes to the HVAC???
The rest might get plugged for the time being.

And while I am digging in the piggy bank, does anyone have a picture of how the throttle cable and TV cable are supposed to be hooked up. I think I got where the TV cable is supposed to go (I also think the bracket that is on the truck is the original bracket even though they had that stupid Holley). But they kinda had the throttle cable bolted to the Holley linkage and something about that doesnt seem correct for the Q-Jet.

Edit: ok. Remembering back, the throttle cable is just held in with a clip, correct? Just a c clip.

And of course the air filter bottom plate doesn't fit the q-jet and hits the axel distributor cap. Any suggestions?
