Transmission out and on the bench. Tear down and begin to order parts.
Been a while since I posted. some Slooooooow progress on the k5. been super busy at work so not much time to work on it. the trans is torn down. found burnt 3-4 clutches and burnt rear planetary gear set. all parts are ordered and here now. just have to put it all back together. while its been just sitting there I ordered a bunch more parts. today found time to install the new radiator, flush the trans lines, replace all coolant hoses and t-stat. replaced the fan clutch. replaced the motor mounts. also ordered a crap load of dynamat, new window switches and lock switches (old ones were peeling a bit) and a new passenger side arm rest. I will do all that once I get it drivable again. oh, also rewired the 7 way plug for the trailer brakes as it had seen better days. hopefully have the trans ready to install late this week if not early next week. really missing driving my k5.
Great to hear that you have made some progress.
with the damage done, do you think it was long overdue or you burnt the clutches climbing the hill?
It wasn't bad at all. I think it was just due. 135k miles on an original 700r4.....
Shit...take a look at what was done to my 700r4 which led to a full rebuild.....
scoring everywhere on the shaft...deep gouges.
The p.o. obviously abused the transmission.......
And this... notice how the needle bearings are exposed...the gear was chewing throungh the assembly, and it was so sloppy, when shaken it rattles.
when torn apart, pieces of what was left of the races and bearing were embedded in the trans. Pump intake.
Ya mine wasn't that bad at all. Time and miles being the culprit
My transmission guy told me that with over 30 years experience, he was shocked that the truck made it onto his lift under it's own power. When he started disassembly. ......parts literally fell out. Currently the only part left of the original 700r4 is the housing. I wouldn't consider it to be a "rebuilt transmission ", but a new one...
ABOUT DAMN TIME. TRANS IS BACK TOGETHER. NOW JUST GOT TO FIND TIME TO PUT IT ALL BACK TOGETHER.
Making some progress
X2. That's purdy!
Damn man what’s with the rusty springs??????
thank you. ive dumped a load of $ into this thing while its been down for the last month. but damn near everything is brand new at this point. im hoping to have a very reliable daily driver here. and still way way cheaper than a new truck and much cooler!
