Looks like a great place to start, and you've already made some good memories. That's what its all about.

Great truck and even better story ! Congrats!
My '91 is my daily driver too and it's seeing al lot higway too. It has a loud bas amp too that i put a switch on so now it's only on when the kids are along, way too loud and busy.
I a couple of week i'm taking my K5 on a trip to France (2 x 400 miles). Kinda nervous about it though because even a simple U-joint won't be easy to find there i guess. Maybe i"ll take some pics and open a new thread.

Great story! Did you haul the driveshaft into town with the guy who gave you a ride?

Speaking of buying gas in Kingman, AZ, I did that earlier this week at a Mobil station on Hwy 93. They got me for 10 cents/gallon more than their advertised price because I paid with a credit card. Shame on me for not noticing the increased price on the pump until after I had filled up. However, I didn't see that scam anywhere else on our 3000 mile trip (except for diesel). Dear Kingman town council: I won't be stopping in your town anymore for gas and lunch. And it isn't the money, it's the principal.

BTW, don't forget to check the speedo calibration with the new tires. There's an app for that! (Several, in fact.)

You might want to check the u-joints before you start the trip.

On a related note, I've had Driveshaft King in Dallas install new u-joints and straighten and balance the driveshafts on my last two project vehicles. Easily the best $100 parts & labor (per driveshaft) I ever spent.:waytogo: In both cases, I got rid of minor drivetrain rumbles and annoying "buzzing" sounds in the dash. They also used US-made u-joints with grease fittings.

Ya I pulled the driveshaft on the side of the highway and took it into town with me. after getting frustrated with getting the wrong u joint not once but twice from orielys I found a napa in town and they got the part right the first time. Then found a shop in town with a press and got her done.

mobile in kingman...yup! that's exactly where I filled up and they did the same bullsh!t to me.

That setup is all over here in california. Seems as though they're required to advertise both rates based on how you pay.
