i had the same problem with my k5 and flowmaster 50 series mufflers. i added a pair of resonators. they look like stainless tips but really tone things down and you can keep the rest of your system intact. hedman sells a similar item in a 9" tip for around $40 each

i also went through the entire interior and added as much sound deadening material as i could,including dynapad under the carpet to help with the driveline heat as well as the noise.

Have the muffler shop put in a crossover tube, that makes the mufflers work together and it will quiet them up. Install resonators if that doesn't work, but you will have to move the mufflers forward first, so leave enough room behind the crossover tube to do that. The X pipe is better, but the crossover tube is cheaper and almost as efficient
