Yeah I guess so huh? That would have been 81 for sure and some 82's that weren't 700r4 yet. But still, his output shaft wouldn't work having a NP203 unit.

Right. With the short output, you only options are the 203 and 205.

So how much did you actually cut off of the output shaft?

Ahh Hell !!! Good Question. I should have given the measurements. I have another shaft here I cut off, but it's in storage at the moment, and if I can find it... I'll do some looking around. I may not be able to tell you how much I cut off, but at least tell you what length to cut it too. I'm wanting to say it was about an inch and that included saw curf. The blade is pretty wide on the chop saw like maybe an 1/8 inch.

I will take what length to cut it to getting ready to make this swap. Thanks. also I am mating to a 208 does that make a difference besides needing the adapter piece?

This is to adapt to an NP208 so it will work fine. You'd use the same adapter that is used for the 700r4. This will also work for a NP241C.

All you're really doing is putting in the spacer which I assume you have already, then cutting down the 2wd output shaft so it's the correct length with the adapter. I still haven't made it to storage to see if that shaft is in there.

If you're talking in a 4x4, the Speedo is controlled by the Transfer case, so you'd use the same Tcase and the Speedo is not an issue.

For a 2wd, you'd need an adapter since no Th350 has provisions for the Electronic type since the Th350 output shafts don't have reluctor wheels.

i think we came to the party to late, i just got two trannys one out of a 75 4wd, one out of a 84 pontiac. the 84 is a lockup converer. now someone in an early post said the 4wd bell houseing was much stronger, i have both sitting side by side, there is no diferance in the case's except one has the plug in for the lockup coverter. but its possible the one that came out of the 4wd is not original to the truck, i cant see gm making two differant housings the great thing about gm is keeping thing interchangable. no mater what 350 you use you got to change the out put shaft, either from the spacer kit or cut down from a car tranny. from what ive read everyone seems to shy away from the lockup tranny but after gutting both and laying out side by side, the 84 tranny looks to be much stouter, evey thing looks stronger, the band is twice as wide. plus the shaft can be cut down to the proper lengh, wich means i only have to buy the spacer.

The info you're looking for is right here in this thread. Post #14. I can't read all the text right now, but I think I gave the amount to cut off. You have to be using a 6in passenger car Th350 output shaft. Can't do it with the 9in truck shaft because then your run out of splines. Let me know if that answers your question or not.

i found a spacer kit with no shaft you can view the instuctions on pdf it said to get a shaft out of a car tranny with a 6in tail and measure from the center of the speedo gear clip hole out to 31/4in and wrap tape, and cut off 13/8in including the saw blade. now is the T/C bolt pattern the same for the 350 and 700r ?

i went back and looked, couldn't find one word on how long the finished shaft was or how much you cut off.
