I did move on; sold the truck cheap to a friend who did trannies for the local Chevy dealership. It's just bad experiences now and I'm considering a 700R4 for my current '85 C-20. Looking at the fence not even on it yet...

Ya...I want to comment that if one were to cruise around this site for a while, one will find handfuls upon handfuls of threads about 700R4 transmissions.

I owned ONE in a Camaro when I was a kid.
Even ol dude up there referring to the pickiness of the TV cable is enough for me to stray away. I think any "fuel savings" is negated by the cost and frequency of repairs. It's not worth it :imo:

I. don't think. so.
Homie don't play that!

the 4l80 is an option but you either need to get a stand-alone controller for it that is about 700 dollars or adapt an LS harness and PCM to it, and then you have to give it feedback from the motor of some type. I'm not sure what all but I know its not just a matter of throwing the transmission in and hooking up a cable or two.... That being said, it is the bulletproof beast with OD.

Just FWIW, the 4l80 has a higher first gear than the 4l60e and th350. so it makes it a little slower off the line if you are building for street action.

Wow! You can even shoot it?

I "think" it just needs a TPS signal from the engine side of things.

Tps is about all that is needed from the motor for the 4l80e. But good 700r4 should have no issues lasting in a stock truck that is not overloaded all the time for 100k+ miles.

1991-1994 tbi computers from 4l80e trucks can be converted to stand alone or first mechanical diesels equipped with 4l80e
