Front and rear 10 bolt gear sets and carriers are the same only the side gears are different (c-clip slots)
I gotta think for a minute about rotation directions now, and what the Tcase does etc. Maybe the reverse cut are for High Pinion Ford front Dana 60's.

Huh? Am I getting in the middle of something I'm not reading all of? I'm pretty sure front axles are NOT driving on the coast side of the gear when going forward. Aren't they reverse cuz gears for that reason? This is why you can't interchange gearsets with front and rear axles. Right?

Yes, middle of something you thread skimmer, lol. And yes to driving on the coast side too.

You got it, the Ford high pinion stuff is the reverse cut.

If that's about the front axle driving on the coast side of the ring gear, then IT IS INDEED better to pull someone out of a hole in reverse. Where you have the weight of the engine over the axle for traction, then you also are pulling on the stronger side of the ring gear on the front axle for your main pulling power.

We are talking about the possibility of running a gov-loc carrier in a front 10 bolt axle. Wondering if it would work. And if not, then why not.

I know a guy that swares by it. He says for pulling out in snow it works hood then it lets go once your rolling. Sounds plausible to me.

12 bolts were clutch type and not G-bombs ...........right? Mine is clutch and spring.

I've been thinking about this, because I couldn't remember. But it just hit me, my old '78 G10 van had a gov-loc for sure and I think it was a 12 bolt. I couldn't say about any of my 70's K5's I've had, because I never had to pop a cover off of one. Couldn't say if they were lockers, limited slips or even if they were open.

I've seen the insides of boatloads of 10 bolts though. That should say something about their reliability in a full sized 4x4.

I think it's a crap shoot. I broke mine in my old 2wd S10 with street tires. It didn't fail spectacularly though, it simply quit engaging.

Someone start a feel sorry for me Go Fund Me account. I'll pay it back after I change some parts around and sell 2 of my other projects.

I guess I'll throw these pics out there and hope someone else doesn't seek it out. It's straight other than the little dent over the left taillight that I can tell. That faded paint I have a feeling can be brought back to life. Figured I'd put the 454 out of the C20 in it and sell the C20 as a roller for part of the funds.

Damn! Good girl!!

I'm still convinced the original gov-loc had blown up and the Auburn unit was put in it's place. Other than the M1008 with the Detroit, I've never seen a truck that had something other than the gov-loc. Cars yes, trucks no.

But yes, the G80 code simply meant locking/posi diff.

Both my Burbies had the Auburns. Always assumed they were stock.
