Finally starting a thread for this car, mostly because I'm finally working on it, lol. This is the '79 Camaro RS that I picked up earlier this year, from Swims350.

On the way home:

Picked up a Z28 hood:

And here's how things are going at the moment:

The plan right now is to focus on the bodywork. I originally wanted to get it running and driving first, but I have yet to nail down any plans on the drivetrain.

Subbed. I vote 383 stroker/M22/4.11. Something that pulls to 7k rpm

just m20 or m21 or even wct5 would be fine. Small block and a manual with just enough power to have lots of fun and not loose it on the first corner. Looks like a good start

I dunno. I watched the last episode with the camaro, and thought they lost some credibility when they were explaining how they had never seen the rods with the sheared ends like the ls motors use. The technical term escapes me atm, but they're not new technology, they've been around for quite a while.

Cracked rods is what i call them. VW has used them for years as well as big diesels.

I'm not really on board with calling that car in the show low buck either. Hot Rod magazine did an El Camino back in the early 90's with a 500 ci caddy motor. Iirc, they ran 11's and were into the whole project for something around $1500.

That's kind of they way I've been leaning. But probably a T56 since you can still pick up good ones for less than a good strong 4 speed.

I was also planning on doing a few suspension upgrades (nothing extreme) and going with the widest 18 inch wheels I can fit. US Mags makes a wheel that has a design very similar to the 70's Z28 wheels.

With another baby coming in Oct, I doubt I'll be able to pick up any of the big ticket items until tax season. Unless I sell off some stuff. But there's plenty of bodywork to keep me busy on it anyway and there's a very long list of nickle/dime stuff that's needed. Going to watch those vids now.

...And Cat calls them "fractured rods".
