So my truck originally had cruise with the vac can on the back of the head with the rod to the carb. When the PO added an edelbrock the rod was too short so i took off the vac can. After recently finding a rod long enough i put it all back on. So my question is if the speedo gear in the trans is stripped and the speedo dont work does that in turn make the cruise not work?

Yeah, it won’t work. The transducer needs that information. It should be matter of replacing the gear and, at worst, the lower cable.

Could the lower cable be seized? I don’t know what would strip it out like that. I know they do in fact seize up if you don’t lube or replace them.

Haha, it’s what the old cruise control systems used to analyze speed before 1984 on the trucks when they got the little green buffer attached to the cluster. It’s the spider looking guy in his last picture. Again, not sure if you’re kidding, but there, I said it.

I dont think so its not stripping the square hole the cable goes in ( i should have been more clear) its chewing off the teeth on the cable gear. When i got the truck the speedo gear had no teeth, ive since had 3 diff ones in it and the longest any have worked was like a week

If you've chewed up 3 cable gears and your cables aren't seizing, I'd say your main gear is shot.

What trans is this??, depending on the tranny you either have the wrong housing or wrong combination drive and driven gears, or both..

The thing im finding is that for a stock th350 theres like 5 different speedo and main gear sets and idk whats factory or correct for my truck. I hear theyre cheap and easy but ive never had to do them
