So I have a buddy who'd give me a 4wd 4l80e. It hasn't run for a long time but it was alright when left. How much effort/expense would it take to convert it to a 2wd tail housing? Around here 2wd 4l80es command a 300-400 $ premium over 4wd. This is all a ways off but I got to thinking swapping again, I'd be going from a th400 to a 4l80e. Thanks all

I've heard it's quite an investment of time to do this. You have to change the housing and the output shaft. I've also seen something about a reluctor ring. You can't argue with free, and that would be really nice to have on your truck, especially with a standalone controller. I'd just pick it up and try to swap it over since you're not loosing money by doing it, and you don't need it right this minute.
