I am sure they did because they had to design an all new ecm to control the transmission for the 4l80e,

Looking badass! When is the anticipated stab date?

Yeah, that makes sense. I wonder if it’s true for the 700R4 and manual trucks too?

Thanks! Hoping this Sunday, but not sure. Still have some work in the engine bay - some harness repair and replace a few connectors. Thinking about upgrading the wiring for the headlights at the same time.

Tying up the loose ends can sometimes feel like an eternity when you want to just finish the thing so you can drive it!

reuse the TBI valve covers, the vent that connects to the collar for the air cleaner is different on vortec covers

Dang, I didn't know there was a difference other than the tall oil filler on the vortecs. I let them go with the old long block when I sold it.

might be able to use the one from a vortec motor and cram it in the rubber hose from the tbi setup.

Have you tried using a load leveler? Being able to tilt the engine on removal and install really helps. I have the OTC 4305, it's well built and rated for 1500 lbs. Another thing I like is the Harbor Freight 8 ton air/hydraulic ram (item 94562) for my hoist. I put an 8' air hose on the trigger so I can lift the engine and move around the engine bay looking for snags at the same time. Looks like you already have a HF ram but can't see if it's the pneumatic one.

Bought the HF one! Still didn't get the motor in today, but I'm finally ready to drop it in.

He just burned new bin on to my existing chip while I was there. PO had him do a tune on it years ago and the chip and holder (ZIF, I think) were replaced then

Well, got the 383 in finally. That was the win for the day, the loss was the broken ear on the tranny, see my earlier post.

Finally making progress on finishing the install.

- Tranny broken mounting ear welded, tranny installed and flex plate bolted to converter, etc.
- t-case installed
- starter installed, not wired
- manifolds on
- lots of wiring work, new terminal ends, routing, etc.

Still to do: ignition, more wiring, all front brackets and accessories, belt, etc., etc.

Made the hard decision today to hold off on getting cruise control working. It didn't work before and the big bracket for the diaphragm (mounts to back of DS cyl head) creates too many conflicts with other stuff on my non-stock manifold. Some day I'll try and get it working again, for now I just want this thing to run.
