2wd box for 4wd?

I know you need a 2wd steering box for crossover but can you use it for the stock 4wd steering if you clock the steering arm correctly? I'm asking because I am thinking of buying a PSC box as mine is pretty worn. I want to do crossover in the future but can't afford it right now and I don't want to buy 2 steering boxes.

Nope, the difference is in the sector shaft. The pitman arm attaches in an entirely different fashion.

Just curious, if it's clockable can't the 2wd arm be used? I've never really looked at a 2wd version. I know the 2wd version is clockable in 4 positions, the 4wd is only 1 way.


EDIT: Ok, I just looked up the arms on rock auto, didn't realize the 2wd version had the link on it. I wonder if I can find a 4wd style pitman arm made for the 2wd box.

Hmm. That's an interesting thought. I can't recall ever seeing a 2wd type pitman arm without the socket built in.

You could just get the PSC 4x4 box and use it now, then swap a 2wd sector shaft into the PSC box later though.
