I can't seem to find much on here about the engine in my truck. When I do a search under the areas - it just says no match found - no matter what configuration or decription that I use.

Has anyone done any upgrades - remove Rochester carb for a Weber or 4 barrell set-up etc.

Intergrated head? What years before my 1975 were not.

Thanks for any help guys.......

The truck is a 1975 C-10 - 4.1L(250) - Auto -2wd -- Used to be a farm truck.

I had a '79 K5 with the 250 in it, it was and older non-integrated head version that had been swapped in at some point. It was a great motor that could not be killed, and had excellent low-end torque. I never modified it because it would have been more cost effective to swap it the 327 I had (sold the truck though).

A company called Clifford should still offer all the old hop-up parts.

Most people don't, only because the selection and options for 6cyl are not near as good as SBC, and also much more expensive than SBC. You'd be way ahead of the game financially to go with a 350. Even if you aquired a good running used one or a core and rebuilt it.

Appreciate the info.- will consider- I just have a love of the old in-line engines - most were bullet proof --to a degree -- there were exceptions.

Yep, they are hard to kill. One thing I'll add, if you do build the 6, swap to the NON integral head. Try to find a head off a 230. Better compression, and no smog bumps in it to restrict flow.

It's nice to see a IL6 being saved and used instead of scrapped for a SBC.

I used to run a few Dodge slant six's. One of them I installed a cam and headers and a 4 barrel, lost tourqe, gained HP and top end power, but wasn't very practical for a daily driver. Being there and done it I would rather keep them factory and run them with the best parts. Just my 2 cents.

When did they quit making the 230? My dad's 66 C-10 needs head gasket/head, I think it has a 250 in it, I know it's not a 292.

And yes, you have to be talented to kill one. Mine had a blown head gasket and ran at 260+ in the summer, but still ran great. Then it blew out the rear main seal and used a quart of oil about every 20 miles or so. It caused me to run it out of oil countless times. It would loose power and the rods would start hammering away, so I would pull over and dump 6 quarts of oil in it... then fire it up and it ran great again. Looking back, I would never be able to afford that with today's oil prices, lol. I carried a case of oil with me at all times.

I think it ran in the trucks from 63 to 70. It was a replacement of the 235 that was used in 62 models. I had a 65 230 for years and years. I did finally blow a head gasket between cylinders, replaced it and ran the hell out of it. Hot rodding one day, broke a piston cap off the piston skirt, so the skirt kept the rod from going crazy in the cylinder and no damage done to the block. Found a used 283 piston, bought a new set of rings, honed the cylinder back together and drove the hell out of it some more. Then I upgraded to a 327 and the motor sat, then my bro used it for about 2 years, then it sat some more, then my dad used it for about 5 monhts. I finally scrapped the good running motor when I moved to OK from CA. Didn't have room to haul it or I'da kept the thing.

That's what's wrong with my dad's. It might already be a 230, we don't know. I thought I remembered reading somewhere that the 250 was standard that year.

throttle body setup from a TBI 4.3 works pretty good on those 250's.

Those aren't very common these days, but there is HEI dizzies for the Inline 6's.

I saw 4 250CI HEI dizzies yesterday...

If you can get them cheap, I'd pick those up and eBay those fuggers. I'd be guessing you could get about $40 each for them. I'd sure do research on it and check that out. The people I know of that needed them looked pretty hard and said they weren't cheap. I even scrapped a 250 when I seen it was missing the dizzy and was told, have fun looking for a dizzy. I just figured I can get a brand new SBC HEI dizzy, with module cap and rotor for $40 and not going to spend more than that for a 6cyl dizzy.

TBI uses a dizzy that plugs into the puter. They had the small cap with remote coil.
