There's a nice 2000 cavalier z 24 at the local scrap yard that my dad and I are looking at for me to drive back and forth to school in. It has a 2.4l in it with suposedly a bad rattle. (We havnt heard it yet. Just.going off of others). So I looked for a 2.4l and found one out of a 08 hhr with low miles. I could understand needing to change the manifolds over. But my question is. Are these 2 long blocks interchangable???

I highly doubt it seeing as the 2.4 in the Cav is a derivative of the Quad 4 and the HHR is an ecotech, two very different animals.

B ----------

ALERO 00-01 2.4L (VIN T, 4-146)

CAVALIER 00-02 2.4L (VIN T, 4-146)

GRAND AM 00-01 2.4L (VIN T, 4-146)

SUNFIRE 00-02 2.4L (VIN T, 4-146)

A ----------

ALERO 99 2.4L (VIN T, 4-146)

CAVALIER 99 2.4L (VIN T, 4-146)

GRAND AM 99 2.4L (VIN T, 4-146), opt "RC9" (No EGR)

MALIBU 99 2.4L (4-146, VIN T)

SUNFIRE 99 2.4L (VIN T, 4-146)

|A| & |B| interchange by changing intake manifold.

I had an 02 Cavalier 5 speed 4 banger for a little while a few years backs to save money on gas. Not a bad little car to be honest. I'd own one again

^The Quad 4/Twin Cam engines use a unique bellhousing, the 2200 OHV engines use the same pattern as the 60*V6, FWD 3800's and Northstar/Shortstar engines. YES, its possible to have a V8 in a Cavalier, some Canadian did it.

I have an 05 parts car in my driveway with a Ecotec 2.2 and a 4 speed auto if you want it.
