1980 c30 headers

I am new to the forum and this is my first post so I'll start with my truck, it's a 1980 c30 crew cab camper special with a 454 and turbo 400 tranny, engine is mostly stock it is bored .30 over and has rv cam with aftermarket air intake so nothing major but I have a cracked exhaust manifold and I would like to replace it with headers but due to the clearance between the block and the frame I am not sure if this is possible without modification so my question is for you more experienced guys, any suggestions as far as a style that will work such as shorty or hugger I don't believe that long tubes would fit but if there is some one out there that has done it could you let me know and include pictures? Thanks guys

Nice truck, welcome to the forum. I have Chevelle headers on my V10 with a big block. (A V10 is a K10 the changed in 87) but you have a 1ton frame and 2wd so I'm not sure if it would work out for you. Maybe some other 1 ton guys will chime in.

Thanks guys I appreciate the feedback, I will be posting a new thread with more pictures and a full breakdown of the truck later today if you guys are interested in checking it out and I'm always open to suggestions about upgrades and such

Wow sharp truck wish mine was black lol. I just picked up a 89 R3500 it has the 454 also. One of the guys before me put Doug thorly headers on it they seem to fit good from what I can see

I had Thorleys on my 86 and you couldn't get a better fit, hope they'll fit on my c10..

I had never considered thorleys, I just took a look on their website and couldn't find the right ones for a 454, do you have a part number and how hard is it to change the spark plugs with those?


The tag says EO D-540... but Google didn't come up with much so idk. Plugs are ok but those stupid heat shields are a pain I had to pull everyone off them off to pull the plugs. Think maybe if i leave the socket on the plug and then put the heat shield on I won't have the same issue if that makes sense.

My last resort is to make my own, (i actually weld for a living) but i would rather buy something than go thru the hassle of making them, this is the clearance between the block and the frame and as it sits there is probably 2" from the manifold to the frame but headers typically stick out more so you can see my concern

I have an 85 C30. I called Summit Racing and they sold me a set of patriot headers. The driver side was very easy. The passenger side was a bear! I had to unhook (and eventually replace) the starter and transmission cooling lines to get the header in.
