You can tell this is gonna be a pain in the ass with the tie-rod tube in the way. :flipthebird:

If not mistaken, that is refferd to as a center drag link, or drag link. Not tie rod. Then again, its not the whole thing so I won't swear to anything, but about certain its a drag link.

Inspecting the rear. :wtf:

Looks damn good for 180+ K miles!!! :High 5:

Ring gear isn't looking to bad at all, but those spiders are sure showing some wear if I am seeing the pics right and that's not shadows or glare.

Now the fun part, trying to squeeze at least 2 quarts of gear oil into a little hole, wht a phukin tie rod bar in the way. :flipthebird:

Fill it up until the oil starts running out of the bottom of the fill hole and quickly replace the fill plug and tightent it fully.....

I found a small hand pump you just drop into the bottle to pump the oil into whatever cavity your filling. It works awesome, I've used it twice now to fill my trans, transfer case and the diffs.

Only things I would add is, Brake-Kleen to clean out all the nasty old gear oil, yes the spiders are getting knifed to the outer points but should be just fine, and WTF is up calling it a front rear?? You're the second guy from PA I heard call it a front rear lol.

:roflbow::roflbow::roflbow: I noticed that too. I was thinking front axle, or front differential might have been a better explanation. But then again, I think those PA guys call their peckers a front tail, so..... :roflbow::roflbow::roflbow:

We call anything with a diffy a rear. If you look at a tandem axle driven truck, there is a front rear and a rear rear.

Ahahhahaha, wtf, I am gone......

You have to remove cap to change fluid. No drain plug?

Same fluids for a 12 bolt? Same technique for the front axle?

Yes but both front and rear, rear differentials would be in the rear ? No ? lol

That's ok I seen an add with a guy claiming he has a 3/4 ton with a d44 12 bolt in the front and a 14 bolt dana60 in the rear. I guess its a marketing scam, like guys telling you that the truck has a dana 44 front when it clear as day has a gm 10 bolt, cause they think it has more value that way. Im afraid gm didn't offer d44s in 1987 lol

I freakin hate scammers!

Nice job!

I always have a good chuckle when guys are in the parts store looking for differential cover gaskets. I have never had a silicone cover leak. Never! But have seen lots of gaskets leak.

I always clean up the cover with a wire wheel and give it a shot of paint. At least guys can see then that you put a little maintenance into your rig.

I also buy the RTV silicone in the large caulking tubes. It is Sooooo much easier applying it with a caulking gun. And a lot cheaper too when you use it a lot.

You would be amazed at how intimidating doing a differential fluid change is to people who don't have a lot of mechanical experience. So nice Job!
