I'm glad my confusion could be of service! :) Seriously tho, the tech these guys posted is great! I'll try and get in the garage tomorrow and sort this disaster out.

    Braking power question

Lots of great info guys! Thanks for the help! I haven't had the chance to dig into it yet, but I should by the end of this week. So the master and booster should be playing nice with each other, as well as the brake pedal assembly itself. That's good to know! The booster seems fine. Its not...

    Braking power question

Yeah, there's a million things going on with this truck lol. The brake pedal assembly is also from an 87. So I would think it should play nice with the 87 master. I was flipping through part numbers and various other info, and I believe in 87 a 2wd and a 4wd half ton shared the same master...

    Braking power question

I found the old VIN for the cab, and it comes back as a 1987 2wd Chevy 305 TBI with a brake system GVW 5001-6000. I'm assuming that this master is completely wrong for what I'm running. The frame on my truck is a 1978, with axles and brakes to match. I'm thinking I should get a master...

VIN number discrepency on my frankenstein c10

X2. If it makes you feel any better, my truck is made from over six trucks. The frame is a 78, the cab is an 87, the bed is a 79+, the fenders and rad support are off an 80, and the trucks VIN is for a 73 C20. :laughing1:

I just got the codes off the booster and master: Master = ZF Booster = FD

    Braking power question

Hey guys, I have a question about the two letter codes on the master cylinder and the brake booster. They're different codes, so they don't match up with each other. The truck stops, but it doesn't seem to bite very hard, and wont lock up the wheels. The master is out of an 87 C10. I have...

Get new door panels or freshen up existing panels?

Its just easy to say you're dyeing things. I've always called it that.

    That's a smokin deal!

Get new door panels or freshen up existing panels?

I pulled my door panels out of a 79 blazer. They probably weren't the best candidates for restoring, as they were chalky. I sanded the chalk off, prepped with rubbing alcohol, and painted them with SEM Landau Black. I also did the dash pad. They came out great! I've dyed a bunch of interior...

    Exhaust muffler?

If you're only looking at Cherry Bomb, I would go with the extreme muffler. I personally hate the way glasspacks sound.

How much doea your fuel tank hold?

Did the longbed trucks that have 16 gallon tanks have a longer fuel filler neck, or did they move the physical mounting of the tank closer to the rear? I ask because right now my 16 gal tank is mounted too far forward for the stock filler neck to reach the opening of the bed. I was just going...

    az emissions lol

The law is complex. Basically you measure the wheelbase, track width, and then divide by a certain number and you get the maximum amount you're supposed to lift the truck. Nowhere in MA do they enforce this law. I've had some pretty large trucks, including a 99 Sierra with 9" of lift on 37"...

    Pricing out a paint job

Most shops make there money off of insurance jobs, and most of the time straight up paint job's coming in off the street don't offer enough profit for shops to take on. While that truck is in the shop, it's taking uo valuable space and resources for insurance jobs. That said, I'd either paint...

Low oil pressure in a new motor?

I'm sorry, but 7-10psi at idle is too low for me. Every healthy sbc I've had idles at a minimum of 30psi hot, and anywhere from 40-65 while on the highway. I'd be keeping a close eye on it.

    Where does this wire go?

Man Chengny, you're dropping information left and right! I stripped the original main cab harness out of the new cab because it was a 1987, and lacked the provisions for the dash mounted wiper switch, and I wanted to use my original steering column. While taking out the 87 harness, I noticed a...

    Where does this wire go?

Hmmm, possibly? The engine harness is out of an 86 that had a plow, so it might of had dual batteries. My trucks wiring has been a brain buster. I'm working with the following: 1978 Cab harness 1973 Tail light / Headlight harness 86 Engine harness 2000 5.3 LS harness Another quick...

    Where does this wire go?

The bulkhead as in where the harness plugs into the fusebox? The other wires run to the back of the alternator, and to the starter. The big 10 gauge wire was cut before I got the harness, so I have no idea where it goes. Its confusing because I have the LS harness running the engine, and...

    Where does this wire go?

Well I didn't want to leave a 10 gauge, constant hot wire hanging around. I guess I'll leave it off for the initial startup, and if it appears I don't need it I'll just remove it completely. If I'm not losing my mind, there is already power getting to everything, so I shouldn't need it.

    Where does this wire go?

So should I run it directly to the battery? I have a wire coming from the battery going to the alternator, and the smaller wire coming off of the distribution block is already going to the alternator. So that block is getting direct power already. I can run it to the alternator, but it seems...

Hell, I'd love a set if they're not too expensive!

    Where does this wire go?

It comes off the distribution block on the firewall. Its a heavy gauge wire, so I'm assuming it goes to a direct power source like the battery or alternator, but I'm not positive.
