Our trucks with the original R12 system used a different style port to interface with the manifold gauges. When retrofitted, adapters are used so that the R134-specific connectors on these gauges can be used. So your new accumulator (like your old one) should have the old-style R12 fitting on... -

I guess you could, but I wouldn't want to risk it. Plus, the orifice tube is cheap, so you might as well do that while you have the system open. The only heads up for the orifice tube is that sometimes they can get stuck in the evaporator inlet tube, but it's easy to check if you can remove it... -

I have since replaced the compressor, and now it lines up perfectly. Amazing how having the correct part works... So not sure I can help with a mismatched part or parts. Although mine ran for quite a while like that before I replaced everything, so it can be done. -

Tested am/fm, presets, tone, balance, and all seem to work fine. Front knobs are missing, but other than that it is complete: it does have the pigtails (all 3), support brace and bolt for dash, mounting nuts, and the tone/balance knobs behind the volume/tune knobs that are missing. $40 + shipping -

Just to close this out, the problem turned out to be the compressor. I bought a new one again (different brand this time) and I now have cold air! -

I lucked out and found one in a yard for $10. Now I've got everything back to working condition. But... When I went to retake the emissions test, I failed again, and this time with even higher HC numbers than before. What could be causing this?- adamj

That's close, but not quite the right one. But, diverter valve was the keyword I was missing and now I'm getting more hits closer to the right part. Looks like they are expensive though, so probably going to see if I can find one on a junkyard...- adamj

Electric Air Control Valve/Solenoid
Anybody ever replace one of these? Looks like the check valve failed and the air pump was not connected at some point and the hot exhaust gases backed up and melted the electric air control (EAC) valve/solenoid assembly - also known as the diverter valve. I tried searching, but couldn't find...- adamj
