    Thank you Farmer. From the other posts I've read so far, what you mention looks about right. That does make it tempting to drop in a V8 and be done.

    I like the looks and simplicity of the 6 cylinder engines from the pre-integrated head years. I see cheap 250's listed for sale where V8 swaps have been made to cars and trucks. My logical side says to swap in a 350, but either way, I'll probably leave the 3 speed manual in for now.

    Hi, just got a 1981 c10 stepside long bed with 3 on-the-tree and a locked up 250 6 cyl. Starting to investigate engine options for it.... leaning toward an earlier 250 non-integrated head engine, If I can get a running one cheap. Came on this forum to see what is involved if just swap to a v-8...
