What happened to all the S10's

Mine is still going strong. Just under 200k on the clock. Im not getting it either. Granted, not as strong as the 4.3.... but no complaints. Haven't had to touch anything but maintenance... she's over 35 yrs old!

What happened to all the S10's

I still have 2 here.... 1 being an s10 blazer. The pickup is my DD. 86, with 2.8... I recently had to overhaul the trans. It was such a pleasure to do, since it was all original. Seals just got tired & hard. It's just under 200k on the clock. Blazer is an 89 4.3, my baby. My mobile truck for...

    Headlight issues

Check pin fitment at the relay. Or the relay itself. To activate a relay, it's minimal current... so fitment could be the only issue... or losing the control signal from the switch.

    Door Spring Replacement

No... just the hinge. I didn't say remove the door. I just know the door becomes unstable after the hinge is removed. It's nice to have a 2nd pair of hands or a hydraulic jack with towel on top to keep the door steady.

    Door Spring Replacement

Hey my friend! :) bunkering down for more of that white stuff. o_O Yeah, taking the entire hinge out has been the general concensus for this type.. In fact on the bench, in a vice. I recently found a few YT videos on it. Doesn't look too bad, hardest part is banging the new one in place. No...

    Door Spring Replacement

Ohhhh... i didn't realize that was the spring pictured above. I've never encountered that type. My apologies :( I was just thinking of the typical coiled spring.

    Door Spring Replacement

I typically use pry bars to pull them out... a thick rag on top to keep from hitting in the face. Then to install, I've used this other tool... but takes some practice. It's very tight. https://www.amazon.com/Performance-Tool-W84603-Door-Spring/dp/B0187IOXJA

Broke another flexplate, what am I missing?

Yes... shift kits come with a various springs or even drill bits to adjust the shift. In your shoes, just install a simple TransGo kit to prolong life and lubrication. Keep everything else mid range firmness, if anything. I'll go over that Sk350 kit again to be sure on your specific trans &...

Broke another flexplate, what am I missing?

I agree with this, because I know builders who have issues. If they are eating the mistakes, even though it costs more upfront due to labor & experience, it's well worth it. Plus, defective parts are more easily replaced under warranty Etc. Then there's the time factor. Most guys have this...

Broke another flexplate, what am I missing?

Hahaha... no worries. No offense taken here! Believe me. It's not many of us in the field and good at it or enjoy it. Heck, and only 10% of technicians continue to go to training once employed. "They know it all and throw parts at things". I respect your thoughts and commentary throughout this...

Broke another flexplate, what am I missing?

Agreed. They aren't too bad to overhaul. But I've now grown a bit accustomed to a foot press and always had a floor trans jack & 2 ton press. There are tricks to things, removing pistons, etc. Also, there are easy to make 'tools' using long bolts, washers, nuts and all thread rods. I suggest...

Broke another flexplate, what am I missing?

I agree. I don't like the look of the housing. Im quite sure the bell housing is part of the case, unlike many modern trans which sucks butt. Then you'd have to find another case. No way to really be sure until it's in front of you. Better yet, your trans guy friend. If he's trust worthy, I'd...

Broke another flexplate, what am I missing?

I'm talking about the bushing. There's a seal. Then bushing. Then pump gears. No bearing... That's not what the converter rides on or touches. Only seal, bushing, & gears.... or input shafts. Strain on those pump gears due to worn bushing is 1 cause of the whining...and will also affect...

Broke another flexplate, what am I missing?

Fitment of converter to flexplate look fine. Typical gap from my opinion & experience... but geeee wizzzz that weld job! That.... that has me concerned although by eye looks decent. Just catching up now, still have a bit more comments to go through. You are right about the side to side...

Broke another flexplate, what am I missing?

Regarding the spacers or washers, not on this that I'm aware of... BUT due to the fact you have a TH350, a trans I don't personally see much, there may be a difference. I don't want to misinform. Can't hurt to do more research on that part. Maybe ask your trans guy friend. I rebuild many, but I...

Broke another flexplate, what am I missing?

You should be able to at least see if the bushing is worn, depending on how far out the trans is coming out to gain access to flexplate replacement. It should give you an idea of what may be going on, a direction.... or maybe something ruled out... never know. I hear you on wanting to draw...

Broke another flexplate, what am I missing?

lol.. they aren't too bad to do. Im thinking you might have the 4l60.... or 700r4. If it winds up needing to be done, I'd add a TransGo kit... to improve lubrication to certain components and installs fail-safes. This will help prolong overall life, even with a shift kit & driving it like you...

Broke another flexplate, what am I missing?

Well, it's not the easiest to replace if trans pump isn't removed. The shafts make it a PITA to remove or install. The seal, not too bad. How many miles, approx? Edit* read initial post. :D

Broke another flexplate, what am I missing?

if you happen to hear the whining again. Try pulling trans dipstick... see if there's cavitation or bubbles/foaming. Then there's something up with the trans internally anyway. Either valve body issue or maybe filter. Beautiful pic BTW. Not much rust from the looks of it.

Broke another flexplate, what am I missing?

I would think bushing on the front pump would be a likely culprit. Everything needs to be square to each other to avoid stress. If the bushing is worn... that slight angle is more pronounced by the time it reaches the other side of the Torque converter. It may not leak if the seal is still...

    Headlight issues

What you see on the dash and what is lit outside have nothing to do with each other. The sockets/connectors on these lights do tend to get green crusties and pin fin fitment tension is weakened over time. With the headlights on, just reach behind and wiggle the connector. If light flickers or...
