    Engine runs ehh not good

Well, not everyone can have the experience and be good at it. In his case it's merely a means of diagnosing a problem.

    Engine runs ehh not good

Just so you know my 83 with a 305 has a slipped harmonic balancer, time it using the timing marks and it runs horridly. Time it by ear and its great, common issue with them.

Drain and fill plug seized on Np208

put a wrench on it then smack the end of the wrench with a hammer, will come right off.

    Pinging/knocking sound

87 with TBI (if still all factory with TBI) has no Vacuum advance, all electronic. First thing to check is timing second to check is knock sensor. If it is pinging that hard and the knock sensor is functioning correctly it should have pulled all the time giving you a big loss of power while at...

    RPM Fuel Mileage

There is no way in hell his 4 wheel drive suburban with a 5.7 will pack itself efficiently at 70 spinning 1200rpm with a factory TBI unit. It's not as simple as lower rpm=less fuel consumption.

    RPM Fuel Mileage

between 2 and 2400 rpm at 70mph in my opinion. Any lower and you will burn more fuel working the engine outside of its power curve. I'm running 4.10's with 265/75R16 tires and with a 700R4 and turning 2500 at 75mph

    Going to a 454

So after installing 3/4 ton axles with 4.10 gears in Big Red it gets around pretty good and gets down the highway okay but I am still not happy with the power it makes, especially when I have it loaded down with a 4 wheeler and ice fishing stuff and bucking a wind going down the highway. Here is...

    TBI low idle

Best way to know for sure is to use a scan tool with live data ability to see what the ECM is seeing as far as the coolant temp is concerned. If it is maxed out at -40 that means bad sensor or lost connection. Another thing to try is using a small pick and bending the contact tabs back up...

Help me troubleshoot my TBI Issue

The circuits go bad in them, they just go bad. You will need an ECM with a matching number, the number will be on a sticker on the outside of the ECM. If the ECM has the right number but came out of an auto just pull the chip access cover and install the chip from your ECM.

Help me troubleshoot my TBI Issue

Sounds like a bad ECM to me, especially with it throwing an inlet air temp code since that system has no such sensor. They do really weird things when the ECM starts to go south. One test to try is to hold the ECM in your hand while its running and give the case a few good raps with your...

    350 TBI 2k-3k RPM woes

Yes I do. I used the speedo setup from the 87 donor suburban and have confirmed that it is reading with my scan tool. I'm now looking at turning the truck into a 4 speed to cure my unhappiness with its on the highway performance, or I may just sell it and buy a newer work truck that has AC...

    350 TBI 2k-3k RPM woes

No, that is not the issue, I wired it after getting tired of it constantly being unlocked just to keep highway speed. The converter locking has nothing to do with it. It just sucks trying to maintain over 70mph and its terrible on fuel doing it. I'm awful close to cutting my losses and getting...

    carb suggestions for a 350

You cant really go wrong with a Qjet, very reliable and not really that hard to rebuild once you tear one down.

Rebuilt motor brought truck in for exhaust work died on the way home...

Unfortunately that oil pressure switch killing the fuel pump wasn't really designed to save the engine due to low oil, it was actually designed to stop the fuel pump from continuously running in the event of an accident. I've seen many TBI 350's seized due to the breaking of oil cooler lines or...

    ECM question

If I remember correctly it was the B and D terminals on the trans. plug-in. I'll confirm that for you in the morning. A very intelligent man who's been in the trans. business for a very, very long time told me to do this. He said a lot of 700R4's met their death due to not being able to go into...

    ECM question

That's the same speed my 87 ECM goes into OD. I was having problems with keeping the truck at 75mph and keeping the converter locked. I finally just jumped the wiring to the trans so it goes into full lockup as soon as it hits OD, much better. I drive around town in drive only anyways so its not...

    NO OIL pressure

I've got an old dizzy that I've ground the teeth off the gear and cut the rotor mounting plate off the shaft. Its the perfect priming tool since it allows proper oiling to get to the top end of the engine, and not costing me anything is an added bonus :rockit:

    Starter Grind

No such thing as "out of time" with that. Usually a starter grind is caused by a failing solenoid, just because its new doesn't mean its any good, parts these days just seem to be getting shittier and shittier. If it is shimmed I would advise that you check your gear to gear meshing to make sure...

    1987 Suburban - Serp. Belt?

I swear I have to draw a picture for the ones at my local carquest. I told the kid in there once I needed intake gaskets for my 350, after a couple of minutes on the computer he says "I can only get you those gaskets in an intake gasket kit" Forehead slap.

    Timing on 84 305

I second that, I've never seen a non vac controlled dizzy unless it was on a fuel injected rig. Sounds like you have too much timing or a weak when hot starter. Confirm your top dead center on the number 1 piston to make sure your balancer hasn't slipped causing false timing readings (a common...

    1987 Suburban - Serp. Belt?

I call them a serpentine belt because they look just like a serpentine belt, its less confusing to most people than saying its a flat ribbed belt. It looks nothing like a V belt, it looks like a serpentine belt.

    NO OIL pressure

If you are using an actual priming tool or using an old dizzy that has been modified for priming and it is taking that long to prime you have a serious issue. Also, oil pressure should register on the gauge if it is a full mechanical gauge at all times. If it is an electric gauge it should still...

    Oil Pressure Troubleshooting

Its not the bonding abilities of the product that concerns me. What concerns me is excess epoxy forming a droplet outside of the bonding area when you press the pick up tube onto the oil pump. That little droplet of excess then hardens and runs the risk of breaking off of the little bit of...
