    Looking at a 1983 GMC w/ a cadillac 500 motor

Looking at getting another squarebody. This one has a caddy 500 engine mated to a 700r4 transmission. Truck is very clean all around. However, the heater isn't hooked up. The climate controls and blower motor are still installed, but I don't know if they actually work. The guy I'm talking isn't...

Might be a long shot, but...

Why are the lower control arms such a hard thing to find? I can find the uppers anywhere, but LMC is about the only place that has them. Rock Auto is out along with about everybody else. Since mine was tack welded, what are my options in getting it fixed w/o replacing?

    Best spot for tach?

    This is where mine sits.

    Best spot for tach?

Well, since the floor console I got and returned didnt work out, tach will be staying where it is. Huh, I posted this before I got my floor console, interesting how things worked out...

Might be a long shot, but...

I’ve got the steering box where I want it now. Truck does have a serious toe out issue, too. But, I’ve got to get the driver side lower a arm replaced first ☹️

    The Bench Seat...

That looks great! $265 ain't bad, either. I'll have to do some checking around town and see if I can get a similar quote somewhere. Thanks!

87 r10 engine and trans problems

The off idle surging could be the IAC acting up. Mine does the same thing. Give it a bit more gas and it goes away.

Will I need anything besides basic tools and the spring compressor? Also, I just called LMC and they confirmed that the a-arms come with everything installed. So, that'll make things easier.

Might be a long shot, but...

What about replacing the actual control arm? Is this something I could do in a weekend or would I need to take a week off from work? I have some tools, but nothing specific for suspension work. Also, I've been driving the truck like this for 4 years and the shop guy made it sound like I...

Might be a long shot, but...

Found parts on LMC. How difficult is it to replace all the a-arms? I might as well do all since they come with ball joints preinstalled, too. Oh, the guy at this shop also told me he wouldn't replace anything that involved removing the spring. Says it's too dangerous.

Might be a long shot, but...

Just got back and shop wont work in it. They say the lower control arm on driver side has been poorly welded and it falls about half an inch when lifted. So, guess I get to locate lower control arns, yeah.....

Might be a long shot, but...

Glad I raised the front end first. There is zero play in the tires. Passenger side has a little bearing play. But no tierod play. Gonna go get it aligned.

Ok, I know tie tod replacement is not that big of a deal. Called 2 shops just to see what it cost and WOW! Over $400 for one and $100 less at the other.

Might be a long shot, but...

I'm replacing tie-rods tomorrow. I tightened up steering box last weekend and the front tires hunt around now (it's more noticeable than before). So, I am wondering if someone with an aligned front-end could provide measurements. Basically from the edge of adjustment sleeve to the ends of the...

87 r10 engine and trans problems

If it’s the lighter green wire, then it’s maxing out OL. The other green wire bundled to the left is for the tach. I 2 green wires coming from bulkhead connector. The darker one is for the temp sensor. So, I assume the lighter green one (top of bulkhead connector) is for the oil pressure...

87 r10 engine and trans problems

Last time I had the dash apart, I forced the needle back, turned key on and it slowly moved back to the right. EDIT: Is it coming off the firewall? And is it from the fuse block or elsewhere?

87 r10 engine and trans problems

It's gotta be the gauge, cause the sensor is disconnected. I can find the wire under the truck, but not above. Makes it tough to trace.

87 r10 engine and trans problems

Mine is a single wire and I do not have an aftermarket gauge installed. Actually, the plastic around the connector broke off, so I can't use it right now anyways. But, it never has worked. Gauge is always maxed out.

87 r10 engine and trans problems

Does this truck have long tube headers on it? If so, the slow/no crank when engine is warm could be the starter getting heat soaked. I have first hand experience with this and it sucks! Get a heat shield and a new starter.

    Anyone know what this is?

Why would they have it typed as 350 CID if they were referring to the tranny? They wouldnt type 350 CID if they were describing the tranny.

You could go to AutoZone and have them scan it for free.

    Yet another 350 tbi problem

It might improve your shift points. What you need to do is push the TV cable all the in at the TBI. It has a tab you need to push in at the same time. Once all the way in, with engine off, go WOT on the TBI at the TBI. This will set the TV cable.

    Yet another 350 tbi problem

No. The 700r4 is not a computer controlled tranny. It has a cable (TV cable) to auto shift gears.

Looking to quiet the exhaust some

Damn! If I was every so lucky to have a truck sound like that! Although, that 85 I had had a Muther Thumper cam in it. It sounded sweet!

Looking to quiet the exhaust some

I'm wondering if my Flotech exhaust kit was meant for a 4wd vehicle. The kits I see on Jegs have a different header pipe for driver side of truck. Oh well, like I said gonna have to replace everything anyways. Flotech was a cheap way to get what I wanted.
