    Wrong brake calipers?

Oh yeah, I forgot that I had to very slightly drill out the hole in the brake hose for my slightly larger banjo bolt. "That was sketchy, but worked out really well." ^My new quote for my squarebody "solutions"

Sad Discovery: GM 10 Bolt Fails

Oh yeah, you better believe I took the cover off first before pulling any other bolts. It’s crazy good condition. So glad. We need to do some of this before I swap the axles, so it is going to be a bit still.

Sad Discovery: GM 10 Bolt Fails

Picked up a 14bff in really good condition having 3.73 that matches my d44 front axle gearing for $200 today. Also got the passenger gas tank for $40. Let’s see if I can get this thing in shape for summer trips up in the Prescott National Forest.

Problematic Starting - rotate crank before starter engages?

Thanks everyone. We also talked to a couple guys at the hot rod shop in town. They said to hit the flex plate with an hammer and see if it rings like a gong or not. If it doesn’t ring out, it’s broken and needs to be replaced. They also said to try a 88-98 starter instead, which I think is what...

Problematic Starting - rotate crank before starter engages?

My 16 year old son is having a tough time getting the 78 K25’s 350 5.7L to crank and fire. He’s messed with every combo of starter shim, counted the teeth on the flex plate to ensure it is the correct starter, and all he can do is this process of turning the engine by hand, then trying to crank...

Looks like Boer goats with a brand new 2024 model kid you got there in the first photo. You should post up a bit about em in the Farm and Ranch thread

Let's see those 4x4 Squares On Dirt!

I know you've talked about your wheels previously @Grit dog , but I'm looking at options for 8 lug steelies. I'm not looking for as tall of wheels, probably just 15x8, but only found 16x6.5 in 8 lug so far.

    Bad ignition switch?

Would the ignition rack cause only 1v to get to the distributor wire? He just replaced the pinon because he broke the plastic during column disassembly. The pinon came with a new rack, but not sure if he replaced it or just reinstalled the original.

    Bad ignition switch?

Looks like it may have been a bad ignition wire solder. Stay tuned

    Bad ignition switch?

Thanks. All of those should be getting full battery voltage however, correct?

    Bad ignition switch?

My sons K 20 has problems with ignition. They are only getting one volt to the distributor. The 16-year-old pulled the ignition switch and in the run position all were at zero ohms, which he thinks should be correct. He reconnected the ignition switch at the column and was getting full battery...

Sad Discovery: GM 10 Bolt Fails

Decisions, decisions. Seems like there are two roads to take and I may be taking the less popular route, but thats nothing new for me. Trying to think about the truck long term instead of just keeping it going. First, I am putting the diff cover back on, refilling with gear oil, and am going to...

Did you do the work yourself or have a shop install? If a shop, do you remember the labor cost?

Sad Discovery: GM 10 Bolt Fails

Thanks Wayne. Yes, that was what I was wondering. A “new to me” rear would be potentially worse than what I currently have. Also, I just completely rebuilt the brake system and got new tires. Would be nice to use those. It’s a 3.73. Got any recommendations for a new diff? Looks like it is time...

Sad Discovery: GM 10 Bolt Fails

Thanks. That helps. What would you do now that we know that? Look for a complete new rear end? If so, avoid another 10 bolt?

Sad Discovery: GM 10 Bolt Fails

Thanks @Turbo4whl Will get a shot of the other side later, hopefully today when I Jack it up and turn a wheel. Yesterday was pure chaos and didn’t have time to button it up and refill yet. Must’ve been meant to be apparently. Having our first lambs of the season hit the ground yesterday made...

Sad Discovery: GM 10 Bolt Fails

Thanks to @nvrenuf for the suggestion, I am also toying with the idea of pulling a 6 lug semi floater 14 bolts in the 88+ body style trucks from the junkyard here in town. I am going to put the cover back on the diff for now, fill it up with gear oil and only drive it short distances while I...

Sad Discovery: GM 10 Bolt Fails

Thanks @Blue Ox and @Buck69 , I appreciate your thoughts on the matter. I have had three different friends give me three different pieces of advice so far. I would like this rear end to last a while Longer in the future and whatever work I do will hopefully help that possibility. I don’t plan to...
